Eaten #2: The Food History Magazine

Three times a year, Eaten explores food history. Each volume contains period recipes, essays, and engaging stories contributed by historians, journalists, and gastronomers eager to share the history of all things food and drink.

From the oldest Chinatown in the world to the revival of pre-European cuisine in the Americas, Eaten #2 explores the tangled roots of world cuisines. Among the articles is a tribute to the late Vertamae Smart-Grosvenor by Rachel Robey, a visit to the root cellar capital of the world by Gabby Peyton, an 1870s account of touring Honolulu written by a touring Scottish singer, and an interview with James Beard Award-winning chef Sean Sherman on his efforts to preserve indigenous American culinary techniques.

Surprisingly, happily, the magazine contains a further reading section that cites additional sources for those intrigued by its articles.
